Test Results

Supa-Flex Markers can survive repeated collisions with traffic by deflecting from the path of off-course vehicles and then rebounding to their original vertical position. The extreme flexibility of Supa-Flex Markers minimises damage to vehicles striking them and enables them to continue to function as road edge guide posts even after repeated collisions.

Supa-Flex-Markers are free of sharp edges, burrs, dis-colourations, contaminations and other marks and defects which could affect appearance and inhibit serviceability. They exhibit excellent workmanship.

Available in 3mm, 4mm and 5mm thick uPVC and 1400mm in length.

 

COLOUR

S.F.M.’s are manufactured in an opaque white colour except for the retro-reflective surfaces and other required markings. The surface of the post does not support mildew or other fungus growth.

WEATHERING RESISTANCE

S.F.M. Post material formulation (in the extruded weatherboard Supa-Clad I.P.) have been subjected to outdoor weathering tests at Allunga Exposure Laboratories, Townsville, with satisfactory results and are continuing in accordance with A.S. AK CK24, Part 1 - 1972 by the Allunga Exposure Laboratory.

HEAT RESISTANCE

S.F.M. Posts have been conditioned in an oven for 2 hrs at 62o C and have proved capable of straightening themselves within 30 secs. when bent 90o for each 4 bends. The tests were completed within 2 mins. of removal from the oven.

COLD RESISTANCE

a) S.F.M. Posts have been conditioned over-night in ambient conditions not exceeding 2o C and have proved capable of straightening themselves instantly when bent for each of 4 bends. The tests were conducted at ambient temperature of 1o C.

b) A steel ball weighing 1kg. was dropped a distance of 1500mm through a vertical frictionless guide to impact the surface of the S.F.M. which was in a horizontal position beneath the guide. The test was repeated 5 times and was concentrated near the middle of the post. The tests were conducted in a continuing ambient temperature of 1o C.

GROUND WATER RESISTANCE

S.F.M. Posts are totally impervious to water regardless of ph value, or duration of immersion.

HYDRO CARBON RESISTANCE

S.F.M. Posts have been immersed totally in commercial grade petrol for periods of one hour. No change in appearance or properties obtained.

FIRE RESISTANCE

S.F.M. Posts have been tested for 2000 seconds (33mins), supported 60mm below a 2000 watt silica rod element. The product did not ignite, or show any trace of discolouration.

FLAMABILITY

S.F.M. Posts do not support combustion when the source of flame is removed, the material will cease burning.

NON-DRIVEABLE POSTS

S.F.M. Posts may be supplied with a 25mm hole to suit an anchor rod in a transverse horizontal position, to resist extraction

DRIVEABLE POSTS

S.F.M. Posts are available with a tongue to resist extraction, the bottom end being square cut (see drawing) or pointed (not illustrated) to order, to assist driving -being ideal for temporary locations

RETENTION DEVICES

RETRO - REFLECTIVE

If specified each post can be supplied with two retro reflective surfaces, one red and one white, to the dimensions required. The retro-reflective materials complies with the requirements of AS 1906—part 1 1981 for class 1A materials. Alternatively, if ordered, S.F.M. Posts can be supplied with Disc Base Formed “seating” for corner Cube Type Delineators

VEHICLE IMPACT

An S.F.M. Post was subjected to 10 impacts head on into traffic, at speeds of 100Kph and 5 impacts at an angle approximately 75o to the traffic face at speeds of 90Kph. The post remained capable of self erecting to vertical and remained serviceable after these tests.

FIELD RIGIDITY

a) Dynamic Test - S.F.M. Posts have been observed not to deflect more than 75mm from the rest position nor oscillate unduly under a gusty wind load at c.a. 50Kph.

b) Static Test - A 1kg load was applied at right angles and centrally to the top of the post in its weakest direction. The post did not deflect more than 75mm from its rest position.

a) Width: S.F.M.’s have a minimum width of 105mm facing traffic over the entire length.

b) Length: S.F.M.’s are supplied + or - 2.5mm of the length specified by an Authority.

Stock Lengths: 1.4 metres or length to order.

c) Thickness: 4mm stock size.

When specified or requested S.F.M. Posts can be printed with a brand name, manufacturers name, and/or month/year of manufacture, and/or Authority’s Initials.

Material Performance

S.F.M. Post material does not vary beyond commercially acceptable limits from the standards stated below.

  • Material: High impact U.V. stabilised top quality - rigid P.V.C.
  • 100% Australian made, especially formulated, being recyclable
  • Tensile Strength: 550kg/sq.cm at 23o C
  • Thermal Expansion: Degrees C in order of 45 x 10-6 over a 55o C (100o F) temperature movement a Supa Flex Marker post will have an expansion/contraction in the order of 2.5mm per metre.
  • Compression Strength: 630kg/sq.cm
  • Softening Point: 80o C
  • Specific Gravity: 1.45
  • Flammability: Material is self-extinguishing, it will not support combustion.
  • Width: 105mm min.
